#1 Baruch & #2 Hunter, #3 John Jay & #5 CCNY Advance To Semifinals

Top-seeded Baruch will be looking for their first CUNYAC Championship since 1995 on Thursday evening.

Top-seeded Baruch, #2 Hunter, #3 John Jay, and #5 CCNY all recorded victories in the 2005 CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championships at CCNY on Tuesday evening.  Baruch will now face CCNY in one semifinal and Hunter will square off with John Jay in the other on Thursday evening at CCNY.  The semifinals will get underway at 5:00 pm and the championship match will follow at 7:00 pm.

#1 Baruch d. #8 York, 30-14, 30-18, 30-17

Junior outside hitter Gizzel King recorded a match-high 10 kills and seven digs to lead top-seeded Baruch to the three-game sweep over eighth seeded York.  Freshman Taisiya Zuyeva added seven kills and six service aces and setter Safia Mian notched 27 assists, five aces, and five kills.  Freshman Irma Ruilova added 8 kills and 4 digs for York and Jennifer Martinez had six kills.

#2 Hunter d. #7 City Tech, 30-15, 30-17, 30-12

Junior outside hitter Kimberly Look had a double-double of 10 service aces and 10 digs to lead #2 seeded Hunter to a three-game sweep of #7 City Tech.  Senior setter Kim Zhu added 7 kills and 10 digs and freshman Karolina Koguc added 11 kills and five aces.  City Tech received eight digs and three aces from junior Adalberte Figaro and Kerene Reeves added eight digs and two aces. 

#3 John Jay d. #6 Staten Island, 30-19, 30-13, 30-21

Freshman Takeisha Diaz led the way with nine kills and four service aces as #3 John Jay blanked #6 Staten Island.  Jennifer Gonzalez recorded seven kills and Chiara Barufffaldi added 23 assists and 10 digs.  Senior Mae Belline Tiu led Staten Island with nine digs and three digs and Mariya Korobkova added nine digs.

#5 CCNY d. #4 Lehman, 30-23, 34-32, 30-20

Junior Jacqueline Peralta put down 17 kills and added 13 digs and two blocks to help lead CCNY past Lehman in three straight.  Junior Brenda Tejada added 14 kills and eight digs for the Beavers.  Lehman was led by junior Kelloney Thompson, who had eight kills and six digs.  Lidabel Moronta added 17 assists and four aces.
