Saying Good Bye To Cape Town
Day 5 South Africa
Another Cape Town morning is upon us, and its time to say goodbye. We will never forget the sites and history of this place and will especially remember the people we met and friends we made. It’s never easy saying goodbye to a memorable place, but there is another adventure ahead of us and everyone is excited.
The final breakfast at the hotel, packing our bags, and its almost time to say goodbye to Cape Town. Some people decided to take advantage of the few hours they had left to view some sites that we missed. Some went to the aquarium some went to Long Street to do some final shopping, and some just slept and got ready for the flight ahead. The bus is almost here so its time to make our way down.
The flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg is two hours. But on our way to the airport we are reminded of the town we are leaving behind. The mountain is starring at us as we are driving towards the airport. Once again we are reminded of the tour on our first day. We all remember the nature, the animals the beauty of the ocean and the warmth of our hosts. Everyone wanted to hike the mountain but rainy weather made that impossible, another reason to try to comeback.
We will never forget the clinic for the children. The smiles that we saw and the difference that we made when we gave someone a ball or a t-shirt is priceless. It all seems small to us, but it means a lot to kids who are growing up in underprivileged homes with little disposable income to spend on luxuries like soccer balls.
The bus ride has come to an end and its time to check in. We say our final goodbye to Cape Town and board the plane. We take off the airplane and take our last look at the mountain that has given us a view that we have come to enjoy so much.
“During the dinner I got a birthday cake and song even though it wasn’t my birthday because I was born on May 16th, but I guess its just one of the ways to make our trip enjoyable.” - Kafui Kouakou – York College
“Once we got on the bus and got out of the fancy area, we discovered the real poverty. I don’t care how nice the guide tried to play it out, I felt a huge sense of sadness just by looking around the street.” - Juan Gomez – CCNY
