In the latest National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rankings, for games through October 25, 2009, several CUNY Athletic Conference men’s soccer players and teams rank among the nation’s best.
York College (10-7, 7-2 CUNYAC), the top seed in the CUNYAC Championships, ranks 53rd in scoring offense in the nation with 2.4 goals per game. York has scored 40 goals in its 17 games. Giving up 1.13 goals per game, the Cardinals’ defense comes in with a 130th national ranking. Hunter College (7-10-1, 6-3 CUNYAC) scores 1.11 goals per game, ranking them 123rd.
Elysee Vilsaint is the top ranked CUNYAC player in the NCAA rankings. His 2.46 points per game ranks him eighth in the country. Vilsaint, a junior from Port-au-Prince, Haiti (South Shore), ranks 7th in goals per game with 1.08. He has 15 goals and seven assists in 14 games on the season. Cardinal teammate Samer Abdel-Fattah, a sophomore from Queens (Van Buren) ranks 87th with a .917 goals against average.
Baruch College’s Freddy Carrasco-Dance, a senior from East Elmhurst (W.C. Bryant), is ranked 62nd in points per game with 1.69 and 42nd in goals per game with .77. Carrasco-Dance has 15 goals and four assists in 11 games this season.
Both York and Baruch will be competing in the CUNYAC Men’s Soccer Semifinals on Saturday, October 31 at the College of Staten Island Soccer Field. York will play Medgar Evers College at 11:30 am and Baruch will play Hunter College at 1:30 pm.
