DEFENDING CHAMPION BARUCH EXPECTED TO REPEAT AS CHAMPION

Defending champion Baruch College is the pre-season favorite to win the CUNY Athletic Conference women’s basketball championship, as voted on by the head coaches in the league. Senior forward Kalea Davis was selected as the pre-season Player of the Year.

Baruch was named the top team on six of the ten ballots, with Brooklyn, Hunter, Staten Island and Lehman each receiving one vote. The Bearcats, who advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, garnered 84 total points out of a possible 100. Projected to finish second is Staten Island. The Dolphins collected 74 total points, and are followed by Lehman, who earned 69 points. Fourth is Brooklyn College (61 points), fifth is Hunter (57), followed by CCNY (43), York (41), John Jay (27), Medgar Evers (26), and City Tech (13).

In pre-season Player of the Year voting, Davis earned half of the ten votes. A pre-season Atlantic Region All-American selection by D3 Women's Monthly Basketball News, the Bronx native set a new NCAA Division III record with double-doubles in 18 consecutive games. Also receiving consideration were teammate Monique Salmon, Priscilla Ramirez of Brooklyn, and Andrea Buckham of Hunter.
