The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released national statistical leaders for Division III, and CUNY Athletic Conference women’s volleyball ranks among the nation’s best statistically. All stats are through games of November 15.
Conference champion CCNY is nationally ranked in three categories: aces per set, assists per set, and hitting percentage. The Beavers’ highest ranking is 9th place in hitting percentage. CUNY Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player Floriana Garo (Red River / Durres, Albania) led the team to a .256 percentage, while hitting .369 herself, ranking 16th in the country. CCNY ranked 41st in assists per set with 11.16. The Beavers’ 2.86 aces per set ranks them 22nd in the country.
Alba Basha (Curtis / Albania) led Staten Island to a 13th ranking in aces per set. The Dolphins compiled 3.02 aces per set. Basha ranked ninth in the nation with .85 aces per set. Danielle Ponsiglione (St. Joseph by the Sea / Staten Island, NY) added .69 aces per set, the 35th ranking in the nation. Baruch comes in at 11th with 3.06 aces per set. The Bearcats were led by Carissa Hoover (Rancho Bueno / Vista, Calif.), who ranked 12th with .84 aces per set. Lehman is the highest ranked team in the category, a tenth ranking with 3.11 aces per set. The Lightning are led by Gerri-Ann Martin (JFK / Bronx, NY), with .66 aces per set and a 48th national ranking. Irma Ruoliva (Newcomer / Cuenca, Ecuador) of York is also ranked in the category, a 49th ranking with .66 aces per set.
The conference had two players ranked in kills per set. Garo is ranked third with 4.78, and Martin is ranked 41st with 3.73 kills per set.
Christina Pierre (Aquinas / Bronx, NY) of Baruch compiled a .342 hitting percentage, good enough for 35th in the country.
