York and Hunter To Vie for Men's Soccer Supremacy

York and Hunter will meet for the second time in as many years in the title match of the CUNY Athletic Conference men’s soccer championships, to be played on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

York (11-7, #1 seed) advanced to the championship game by beating Brooklyn in the Quarterfinals 4-2 and Medgar Evers 2-0 in the Semis, while Hunter (8-10-1, #3 seed) beat CCNY 2-0 and Baruch 1-0.

During the regular season, the two met on September 26, with York taking a 2-0 decision. Sergio Restrepo and Elysee Vilsaint scored for the Cardinals.

A year ago, Hunter College took the title and earned the CUNYAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championships by beating York College. With the score tied at 1-1 after overtime, Hunter won a 3-2 decision in penalty kicks.

This is York’s third consecutive trip to the CUNY Athletic Conference title game, losing last year after beating Staten Island 3-0 in 2007.
