The CUNY Athletic Conference announces post-season awards for women’s tennis for the fall 2009 season. The major awards were voted on by the head coaches, while the All-Stars were selected by the CUNY Athletic Conference office.

Hunter’s Evgenya Kim has pulled off a rare feat, earning Player of the Year honors for the fourth consecutive year. Kim was also voted the Sportsmanship Award for her courteous demeanor. Other major awards include the Rookie of the Year, which goes to Brooklyn College’s Amalea Sideris, and Coach of the Year, which goes to Zack Davis of Lehman.

Kim (Senior, Cardozo HS, Flushing, NY), a three-time championship Most Valuable Player, led the Hawks to a 5-4 defeat of Baruch College for the right to represent the CUNY Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division III Championships in May. She dominated at first singles for four years, compiling a 58-4 record, having never lost a match in the CUNY Athletic Conference.

Sideris (Senior, St. Demitrios, Astoria, NY) is a senior who played tennis for the first time in 2009. Playing primarily at fifth singles, she amassed an 11-4 record in singles play, including an 8-0 mark within the CUNY Athletic Conference.

Davis led Lehman to a 12-8 overall record, including a 5-4 mark and the number four seed in the CUNY Athletic Conference. A year ago, the Lightning went just 7-10 overall.
