CCNY's Loehrke Named Rookie of the Week

Willis Fernandez
City College of New York
Senior / Shortstop / 5’9” / Manhattan Center HS / New York, NY

CCNY Senior shortstop Willis Fernandez had a stellar week en route to being named the CUNYAC Player of the Week to start out the season. He hit .588 (10 for 17), stole 6 bases and had four RBIs in leading City College to a 3-1 record overall. Four of his ten hits have been for extra bases. Fernandez hit for the cycle in the season opener versus Yeshiva University and also threw a scoreless inning with 3 K’s and earning a save in the second game.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Pat Gale
College of Staten Island
Junior/ Pitcher / 6’0” / Tottenville HS / Staten Island, NY

The Pitcher of the Week is Pat Gale from the College of Staten Island. Gale went two for two to start the new campaign, pitching 12 innings overall with 17 K’s against Alma and in the first game of two games against Stevens. He allowed just six hits and one earned run in the process. In going 3-3 overall out of the gate, the Dolphin junior also helped the team at the plate with three RBIs and four runs scored. Up next for the Dolphins is Yeshiva University at the CSI Baseball Complex on Tuesday, March 9 @ 4:00 pm.

 

Baseball Rookie of the Week

Henry Loehrke
City College
Freshman/ Pitcher / 6’4” / Brooklyn Technical HS /New York, NY

The Rookie of the Week is Henry Loehrke from City College. With City College coming off an impressive 3-1 record last week, Loehrke earned one of those wins over Lyndon State College (VT) in a 6-4 decision. The 6’4 righthander scattered eight hits over four innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out four in his collegiate debut. Next up for the Beavers is a clash with Arcadia University (PA) on Friday, March 12 @ 3:30pm.
