CUNYAC / EMBLEM HEALTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christina Pierre • Baruch College • Senior / Middle Blocker / Bronx, NY
Baruch senior Christina Pierre, a 5'11" middle blocker continues to pace the Bearcats, winning her third straight Player of the Week. She began the week with 12 kills and a block in a 3-1 win over CCNY, in a rematch of the 2009 CUNYAC Championship match. Then the Aquinas High School product led Baruch to a 3-1 mark in a tournament at Plattsburgh, that featured all 3-0 wins over Buffalo State, Old Westbury and Keuka and a loss to perennial power St. Lawrence. She had at least nine kills in each match and had nine total blocks, as she was named to the All-Tournament team for the 3rd Place Bearcats. For the week, the all-star tallied 59 kills.
CUNYAC / EMBLEM HEALTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jillian Escobar • Brooklyn College • Freshman / Outside Hitter / Queens Village, NY
For the second straight week, a Brooklyn freshman takes the Rookie of the Week award, as Jillian Escobar helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with straight set wins over John Jay and St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The newcomer from Francis Lewis High School had 18 kills in six games, a 3.0 average and hit .157 for the period. She currently leads the squad with a 2.1 kills per game average. In addition, the 5'4" outside hitter collected 13 digs, good for a 2.2 average, as the Bulldogs get ready to battle three non-conference opponents this week.
