Bearcats' Goren Named Player & CCNY's Kim Earns Rookie

Second Singles/Junior/Hod Hasharon, Israel/Rothberg

CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, Guy Goren is undefeated so far this season at the #2 singles spot going, 7-0 as Baruch continues on an eight match winning streak, including two conference victories this week. Goren started his week defeating Staten Island’s Riad Hamai, 6-0, 6-1 in singles. He went on to pair up with teammate Artem Gorbachevskiy to take on Nicholas Zikos and Daniel Ursomanno (8-5) and win another match for the Bearcats. The junior went on to sweep both his singles and doubles against York without dropping a game. Goren defeated the Cardinals’ Erick Giron 6-0, 6-0 in their singles match and then 8-0 in doubles along with Gorbachevskiy and York’s Guarocuya Reynoso.

 

CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week

DO HYUN KIM, CCNY

First Singles/Freshman/Sunnyside, NY

Playing at first singles for the Beavers, rookie of the week Do Hyun Kim took away the only victory for CCNY this week. In the conference matchup against Lehman, the freshman playing at the top position was able to fend off the Lightning’s sweeping victory by defeating his opponent Philip Akogu 6-0, 6-2. Kim came close in the doubles matchup with partner Kedarry Ransome however Lehman’s Akogu and Cesar Andrade managed to outlast the duo 9-7. Kim and the rest of the Beavers’ men’s tennis team will return to action Tuesday afternoon for a nonconference matchup against USMMA at 3:30pm at King’s Point, NY.
