Bulldogs' Star Orkis and Bearcats' Rookie Mukofsky Earn Weekly Honors

Yuliyah Orkis has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Last year she was the 2011 CUNYAC Player of the Year and she continued her extraordinary performance in the beginning of the 2012 season. The sophomore had outstanding performances in her two matches as the Bulldogs were victorious 8-1 over NYU-Poly. In singles play, she did not lose a single point as she went 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. At first doubles, Orkis and her partner Liana Rivkin won 8-3 to give Brooklyn the edge.

Jennifer Mukofsky has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week. She won all four matches that she competed in this past week. The rookie missed the first match of the season due to an important class but made her big debut in the second match. Playing first doubles with teammate Patricia Correia, the duo beat Nellya Blinova and Marisela Camano of Lehman 8-1. Along with partner Lisa Kurner she defeated Laurie Earlie and Denise Liguori of Farmingdale State 9-8. In singles play, she defeated Danielle Buckley of Lehman 6-0,6-0. She was also victorious 8-1 against Laurie Earlie in a pro set played due to oncoming darkness.
