The 2014 Men’s and Women’s three-day CUNYAC  Swimming and Diving Championships is set to make waves January 30 at Lehman College and will end on Saturday February 1st. Also scheduled for Thursday are the men’s and women’s Community College Swimming Championships.

Baruch fell just short of sweeping both championships in 2013 as their men’s team was edged by Lehman in the closest point margin in CUNYAC history, 52 points. On the contrary, the Bearcats women’s swim team won by the largest margin in CUNYAC history, tallying a total of 404 overall points.

The four-time champion Lady Bearcats will be led by captain and former CUNYAC Athlete of the Year Julia Sung. The Baruch men’s squad, who have won three of their last four championships, will be under the leadership of senior captain and former 2012-2013 CUNYAC All-Star James Chang- who played a crucial role in last season’s men’s swimming and diving final. The CSI Dolphins could make it into this years’ finals, as it men’s and women’s athletes swept weekly awards for four weeks this season.

Currently, the Dolphins top the Men’s Swimming and Diving standings with last year’s winner Lehman a close second. Baruch and Brooklyn are third and fourth on the leaderboard, with York placing in fifth. Freshman phenom Tim Sweeney will play a huge role for CSI in the CUNYAC Championships as he had an outstanding year, winning  Rookie and Athlete of the Week Awards. Lehman will look toward Ramon Peralta and Enes Monica to have great performances during the tournament as well.

The Women’s Swimming and Diving standings currently put Baruch’s Bearcats in a position to take another championship, with a 6-0 record. The Hunter Hawks are looking to shake things up year as they have risen in the rankings to overtake CSI for 2nd place behind Baruch. CSI is a close third followed by Brooklyn, John Jay, Lehman, and York, respectively, which all assumed the same rankings from last season.
