CSI's Palmeri, Stevens' Walters and Baruch's Perez Earn Weekly Awards

Short Stop/Sophomore/Staten Island, New York /St. Joseph by the Sea

Joe Palmeri has been named the CUNYAC/MCU Player of the Week for the week 3/3 to 3/9. Throughout the week, the sophomore shortstop batted .526, recording four extra base hits, 4 RBI’s and a stolen base. The Staten Island native hit safely in all three of the Dolphins games this week.

Freshman/Diamond Bar, California/Diamond Bar HS

Zeph Walters has been named the CUNYAC/MCU Rookie of the Week for the week 3/3 to 3/9. In an impressive 13-1 win over John Jay, Walters belted a home run while recording three hits out of five trips the plate. In total, the Diamond Bar native scored three runs.  Walters also saw limited time on the bump for just a inning but fanned two of the three batters he faced.

Paul Perez, Baruch
Pitcher/Junior/Middle Village, New York/St. John Prep

Paul Perez has been named the CUNYAC/MCU Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of 3/3 to 3/9.  In his only pitching performance of the week, Baruch’s Junior Pitcher logged 10 innings, striking out six batters, all while giving up one run in the Bearcats thrilling win over Skidmore.

Baruch Baseball traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to play a series of games against various teams around the nation. The are currently 2-4 on the trip with both of their wins coming against Wilmington College (OH) and Skidmore College. The Bearcats will return to action today at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers with a9:00 am contest against United Coast Guard Academy.

CCNY opened their season with two losses at home to Plymouth State on Sunday, 7-3 and 5-3. In the first game, Martino retired the first six batters he faced in order before the Panthers posted four runs in the top of the third. CCNY got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Adrian Pena drove Estrella in off a single, but Plymouth State answered with three more runs in the fifth. In the seventh, pinch runner Jaquan Murphy scored from third off a wild pitch while Betha singled to bring home Gabriel Pena. In the second, the Beavers quickly found themselves down 5-0 after just two innings. After calling for a mound visit and rallying his players, head coach Steve Macias' team rallied. Gabriel Pena scored in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball, and then in the sixth would drive in Estrella off a single down the left field line. Pena would score three batters later on a two-out RBI hit by Sonenshine, pulling CCNY to within two. In the bottom of the seventh, CCNY put two runners on with just one out, but couldn't get the hit that might have changed the outcome of the game.

Lehman opened the season with a pair of losses to Purchase College. This week, the Lightning look to play three games with Bronx rival Mt. St. Vincent.

CSI participated in the Cal Ripken D3 Experience Week in Myrtle Beach, SC. They are scheduled to usher in the regional part of their schedule this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders.
