For the month of May, Christin Hu of Macaulay at CCNY has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. The junior javelin hurler and sprinter excels in the classroom and is captain of the CCNY Women’s Track and Field squad.

The Macaulay Honor Student boasts a 3.85 GPA with Honor Roll and Dean’s List recognition. Majoring in architecture, Hu has a rigorous academic schedule and is interning for her Construction Tech professor this summer at his architecture firm.

“Architecture is an intense major,” said Hu who believes the craft is time-consuming, but worthwhile.

Athletically, the Beaver standout is consistently one of CCNY’s top runners. In May, Hu placed third overall for javelin toss in the CUNYAC Championships (27.26 meters), placed fourth overall in the 10000 meter run (52:07.20) and placed fifth overall in the 5000 meter run (25:11.46). The Queens native has also been recognized as the 2013 CUNYAC Cross-Country Sportsmanship award winner and a 2013 CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field All-Star.

“Christin Hu is the backbone of the women’s cross-country team,” said head coach Hugh Reid. “Christin was selected as team captain for the second time this year, and has taken her job seriously, as she has reached out and connected to every member of the women’s team. She is a true teammate and sportsman.”

In her free time, Hu is an avid recreational reader-  you can find her in a bookstore or cafe reading a great novel. She even finds time to read on the subway during her commute to and from school.
