Cari English has been named the CUNYAC/Pepsi Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of 8/25-8/31. Cari was named to the All-Tournament team at the Oneonta Invitational. In four matches, Cari had 23 kills while hitting .228. She had nine solo blocks. She had 11 kills, 3 service aces, and 3 digs in the 3-1 win over Curry.

Amy Sung has been named the CUNYAC/Pepsi Women’s Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of 8/25-8/31. Amy posted 26 digs in a tough 5 set battle versus Rutgers-Camden. She reached the same mark again a day later by notching 26 digs in a 4 set match versus DeSales. In the following match, she posted 19 digs in a win over Albright.

Julia Connolly has been named the CUNYAC/Pepsi Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of 8/25-8/31. The freshman from Deer Park was outstanding in her first collegiate tournament. Julia led the team with 22 total kills. In the Hawks victory over Rowan, she had 9 kills and 2 blocks.

The City College of New York women's volleyball team opened its 2014 season this weekend at the Kings Point Invitational hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Beavers lost in five hard-fought sets on Friday night to Farmingdale State (25-18, 25-17, 15-25, 19-25, 15-8), then fell in three sets to Brooklyn (25-19, 28-26, 25-18) and to host USMMA in four (25-13, 24-26, 25-13, 25-10) on Saturday.

Lehman opened the season 1-3 at the Oneonta invitational, beating Curry in the first match, 3-1. Senior middle blocker Cari English was named to the All-Tournament team, as she had 13 kills while hitting .228. She added nine solo blocks. She had 22 kills, three service aces, and three digs in the win over Curry. This week, Lehman hosts heads to a tri-match at FDU-Madison with Purchase College on Wednesday, before hosting William Paterson on Thursday in the home opener.

The Hunter Hawks kicked off their 2014 campaign with four matches at the NYU Labor Day Tournament. The Hawks faced some tough competition and finished 1-3 with their sole victory coming against Rowan University. This week the Hawks face Stevens Tech on Wednesday and then travel to Kean University to take part in the Kean Tournament, where they will play the hosts, Farmingdale State, Frostburg State and Centenary College.

The women's volleyball team began their season on Friday by competing at the DeSales Invitational in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. They picked up their first win of the season with 3-0 sweep of Albright. For her efforts through out the tournament McKenzie Davidson was named to the All-Tournament Team. The women's volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 2, with a 7:00 pm non-conference match at St. Joseph's College of Long Island.

John Jay Bloodhounds (1-3 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC)

On 8/29/14, the Bloodhounds lost to Wesley College, 1-3 and College of St. Elizabeth, 1-3. On 8/30/14, the Bloodhounds defeated Maritime College, 3-0 and fell to Manhattanville, 0-3.

The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team opened its 2014 season at the Kings Point Invitational going 1-2. Junior Yelizaveta Malysheva had a solid performance being named to the All-Tournament Team. Brooklyn will have a busy week taking part in the Vassar College tri-match with SUNY Cortland (Sept 1st), Rutgers Newark (Sept 4th) and the William Paterson University tri-match with Manhattanville College (Sept 6th).
