2018 CUNYAC/Modell's Softball All-Stars Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 2, 2018) - On Wednesday, the City University of New York Athletic Conference and Modell's revealed their 2018 All-Star selections for softball.

In a poll of the league's seven head coaches, Lehman's Maranda Diaz repeated as the CUNYAC Player of the Year. Staten Island's Nicolette Trapani and Stella Porto were individually named the CUNYAC Pitcher and Coach of the Year. Hunter's Gianna Raimondi earned the nod as the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year.

Player of the Year - Maranda Diaz, Sr, IF, Lehman
Diaz has left no doubt on the field in her senior year for the Lightning, batting .488 with six homers and 28 RBIs. She also owns an impressive .930 slugging and .530 on-base percentage, in addition to scoring 39 runs on the season and swiping 32-of-34 bases.

Diaz presently leads the conference in nearly every offensive statistical category, including batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored and stolen bases.

Pitcher of the Year - Nicolette Trapani, Sr, Staten Island
Trapani has been masterful in the circle for the Dolphins, pitching the tune of a 9-6 record with a league-leading 2.34 earned-run average and 96 strikeouts in 2018. She has limited opposing hitters to a stingy .244 batting average against, as well.

In addition, Trapani has surrendered just two earned runs or fewer in 11 of her last 12 appearances, and registered five shutouts in the process. Three of those clean sheets have come in the last 10 days.

Rookie of the Year - Gianna Raimondi, C, Hunter
Raimondi has exploded onto the scene for the Hawks this year and started 25 of 26 games as the team's primary backstop. She currently leads all rookies in the league in batting average (.370), on-base percentage (.425) and slugging percentage (.466), and has committed only two errors for a stellar .980 fielding percentage.

Coach of the Year - Stella Porto, Staten Island
Porto, who received the honor for a third-consecutive season, guided the Dolphins to a 20-10 regular-season finish and a CUNYAC regular-season title, after a perfect 12-0 record in league play.

In her 16 seasons patrolling the CSI dugout, Porto has compiled a 378-235-2 record, translating to a scintillating .616 winning percentage.
